   Membership

LBKA is a volunteer-run members' association and registered charity that represents beekeepers and beekeeping in the London area.

We currently have 182 members 111 of whom have bees.

We provide information and promote the needs of bees and other pollinating insects through members' events, media appearances, public outreach and collaborations with councils, organisations and academics. We aim to provide advice on planting for bees and forage-creation programmes. To find out what we're about, come to one of our monthly meetings, for topical beekeeping advice and to chat to other members over coffee and cake.

Please consider joining LBKA (from £15) even if you do not keep bees. We are all volunteers and having a strong membership helps us meet our charitable objectives. Joining us helps us represent more of London's beekeepers and helps us carry out our various outreach, education and forage-creation programmes.

In addition, members can attend special members-only lectures and events, receive our periodic newsletter, can purchase bees from us, hire equipment, get advice and support and get discounts from some suppliers. Particularly if you keep bees, you should also opt for the full benefits of British Beekeeping Association (BBKA) membership of BBKA News and insurance for those who keep bees.

Annual membership runs until 30th September. If you join now, your membership will run until 30th September 2026.

If you have bees, you should become a full member which includes BBKA (British Beekeeping Association) membership. We will organise your membership and insurance. Most beekeepers will take full BBKA membership at £40 which includes the monthly BBKA News newsletter, public liability insurance, product liability insurance and bee disease insurance for up to and including 3 hives. You can take out cover for additional hives.

Please join online. The online form will give you the choice to pay by credit card (via PayPal) or request bank details for making an online payment.

Membership types

All the options below include London Beekeepers' Association (LBKA) membership.

If you choose one of the options that includes British Beekeepers' Association (BBKA) memberships, we will also join you up to the British Beekeepers' Association. This has various benefits including a monthly magazine to your postal address and insurance. If you have bees, you should take LBKA with "full" (or "school" or "partner") BBKA membership.

Insurance

BBKA membership (except "country") includes £5m public liability insurance, £2m product liability insurance and bee disease insurance. Bee disease insurance for up to three colonies is included. Please ensure you take out enough cover for all your colonies because underreporting may render your cover invalid. More details here

Where are your bees?:
This will help us understand the relationship between hives and forage and we won't share this information (except perhaps in aggregated form). Please put each apiary on a separate line and include postcodes where appropriate.

Feedback

Please tell us what you think of LBKA. What are we doing right? What are we doing wrong? Should we be covering new topics? Any suggestions are welcome!
Comments will be kept confidential within the committee.

Honey yield survey

How much honey did you have this year? Apiary postcodes with honey weight extracted would help us get a picture of forage availability in London.
This will be kept confidential within the committee, but we may release aggregated summaries. This is optional.

Helping and getting support from other members

A reason to join a beekeeping association is to form local support networks. Our opt-in system will let local members and share the assistance they may offer or need. Only your name and the details you provide below will shared with other members... and only to those who also opt-in.

Whereabouts do you live? Say in as much or as little detail as you like.

What beekeeping experience do you have (e.g. how many years you've been a beekeeper).
